Just had to put my 14 yr old springer down today and am feeling a ton of sadness. Tyler was a pup that we had sold when we bred his mother Maggie...(best dog ever) We sold him at 10 weeks, and rescued him at 6 yrs. He was just the happiest, easiest to be around dog I've ever known, other than his mother. He stayed with us for another 8 yrs, and I had to watch him grow old, lose his sight, fight with arthuritis, have surgery on an eyelid, and through it all, every day, all he wanted to do, was to be a friend, stay close, (never needed a leash) and show affection. Even today, when i took him to the vet, he was trying to keep me from crying in the truck on the way to the vet. He couldn't get up easily, but that didn't stop him from nuzzling my hand, pushing his grand head onto my lap and looking like he would not let me be sad....Don't know why, but i believe some of you know what i'm feeling today....I'm not a young man, and i've had to do this before, but until i owned springers, i've never known the love and dedication they are able to show. I will miss him deeply just as i still miss his mother.

I had to put down my springer of 14 years on June 25 of this year. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do. My husband couldn't stay in the room because he was so sad, but I promised my sweet boy, Toby, that I would be there for him forever and so I was there till the end. He was the sweetest boy I could have imagined. You do not realize the attachment a springer has with you. they are the best friends. I will miss him every day of my life. Good luck to you, and all you are feeling. It is a sad,but a good sad feeling, because if we can feel this deeply it is always a good thing.
We are finally at a stage where we are going to adopt another springer....we just have to find someone with puppies for adoption.
